P3 Camp 2014
Date: 13-14 March 2014
The campers visited Kampong Glam in the day, where they were given an insight to the Sultan Mosque. They explored the textile alley and the shops along the mosque and tried the perfume at one of the shops.
The night adventure started at about 11pm where the pupils were reminded of safety before heading to Senoko Fishery Port and Pasir Panjang Vegetable Wholesale Market. They had a stop-over at West Coast Mcdonald for a light snack between the 2 points.
Pupils were greeted by Mr Kelvin Heng, Executive Manager, Fishery Ports Department, AVA and his team. Mr Heng provided pupils with information on the running of the port which pupils listened attentively.
At Pasir Panjang Vegetable Wholesale Market, pupils were greeted by the fresh fragrance of the vegetables and the sounds of trolleys.
Financial Literacy was infused subtly into the camp. At Senoko Fishery Port, pupils learnt that selling price increases when seafood moves up the distributor chain to the consumer. Pupils were also challenged to include in the factors leading to the increase in selling price, e.g overhead, inflation between middlemen, etc. At Pasir Panjang Vegetable Wholesale Market, pupils learnt that selling price can decrease when buying vegetable in bulk and the factors leading to the reduction in price, e.g economies of scale, etc.
