This year’s theme for Racial Harmony Day is ‘Our Shared Heritage’. We started the celebration one week before Racial Harmony Day with traditional games daily in the indoor basketball court and Racial Harmony Day pre-activities during Social Studies lessons. The students learnt to play traditional games such as five stones, chapteh, and “old maid” cards. The pre-activities helped the students understand that building and maintaining the harmonious relationship between the different races depends on them, and reinforced the importance of racial harmony.

On the day of the celebration, students and staff wore traditional costumes to school. Our parent volunteers also participated in this event by helping us with the interactive cultural booths and the traditional game stalls in the hall and in the indoor basketball court. Students got to participate in hands-on activities such as Henna and making of “jianzi”. Through the various hand-on activities at the cultural booths and playing of traditional games, students learnt to appreciate the culture and traditions of the different races.
