Key Programmes
English Curriculum (Primary 1 to Primary 6)
The school
adopts the Strategies for English Language Learning And Reading (STELLAR) which
aims to strengthen the students’ foundation in literacy skills through a
variety of learner-centred and developmentally appropriate pedagogical
approaches using Big Books and authentic children’s text.
Learning Support
Programme
LSP (Learning
Support for English) is an early intervention programme aimed at providing
learning support to students who do not have foundational literacy skills and
knowledge for the Primary 1 English curriculum.
Identified Primary 1 and Primary 2 students
who are in the programme will attend English lessons conducted by our LSP teacher
in small groups during curriculum hours so that greater attention will be given
to each of them.
Good Morning,
Rivervale!
All Riverlites are given an opportunity to stand on stage and tell a story or share a topic of their interest. Through this sharing, the students will develop and improve their oral presentation skills whilst boosting their self-confidence. Promotion of reading a wide genre of books is advocated through this platform.
Little Red Dot (P3 to P6)
Each term, issues of Little Red Dot, a Straits Times supplement, is given to each class from Primary 1 to Primary 6 to expose students to current affairs and expository writing.
D.E.A.R.
The first 5 minutes of the English lesson is set aside for silent reading. This aims to encourage the habit and love for reading.
Language
Carnival 2018
English department collaborated with Mother Tongue department to hold a Language Carnival for Primary 3 and Primary 4. This aims to develop students’ passion for the languages, and arouse interest in learning them.
